MATHEMATICS, MADE PERSONAL
Your name.
Set in prime.
A name, written into a real prime number.
A piece of art. A proof checked by Lean.
Lean checks mathematical proofs, step by step, so you can be sure your number really is prime. See how it works

Set in Prime
This sample spells “set in prime” in the digits of a real prime number. Read left to right, then top to bottom: it’s all one number.
Open the three-page PDF to see the artwork, its mathematical record, and a short guide to the Lean proof.
Your own finished portrait will replace this example here.
Your downloads
Your artwork, certificate, and proof will appear here.
Downloads unlock after Lean accepts the proof. Explore the sample in the meantime.

Once your portrait is ready, you can start a fresh Lean check yourself and watch the real command and output here.

This check runs on our server. For an independent check on your own computer, download the complete proof project above. The terminal shows the fixed verification command; it isn’t an editable command line.
THE PROOF BEHIND THE PICTURE
What is Lean?
Lean is a computer program that checks mathematical proofs, step by step.
A huge number can look prime without being prime. Lean checks an exact argument that your number really is prime. That makes the proof part of the gift: something anyone can check again.
After your portrait is ready, you can press Run the proof yourself to watch a fresh check in a small terminal window. No installation needed. Or download the project to check it on your own computer.
What makes the number prime?
A prime is a whole number greater than one whose only positive divisors are one and itself. We build a certificate that proves this for your exact number, then have Lean check the proof. A completed portrait is only released after that check succeeds.
What does Lean actually check?
Lean’s mathematical checking core verifies a proof that this exact number is prime. The project also proves that the ordered decimal digits reconstruct that number. The proof project includes the source and instructions for repeating the check.
Can I try the proof checker myself?
Yes. Open “Try the proof checker” on your finished portrait and press “Run the proof yourself”. You’ll start a fresh Lean check and see its command and output. It runs on our server, so there is nothing to install. For a check independent of this website, download the full project and run it on your own computer.
Will someone else get the same number?
We reserve each completed prime in our records and check for duplicates before issuing it. Two people with the same name can receive different primes, with a few background digits changing. This is uniqueness within Set in Prime, not ownership of a number.
Why are there so many zeros?
They are part of what makes the proof practical. The long ending gives the number a mathematical structure we can use to certify it. A handful of background digits can change during the search; the letters stay in place.
What do I receive?
A printable PDF, PNG and SVG artwork, the exact decimal number, and a downloadable project containing the Lean proof and verification instructions. There is no physical delivery; you can print and frame the artwork wherever you like.
Is it free? And is my name public?
Creation is free during this early release, subject to available capacity. Supporting the project is optional. We do not add your name to a public gallery. This browser remembers your recent portraits so you can return to the downloads; anyone you share a download link with may access it.
Which names can I use?
This edition supports A–Z, spaces, periods, straight apostrophes, and hyphens, up to 28 characters. The mosaic uses capitals and fits on up to three lines. We show the layout first and ask you to adjust a name that does not fit; we never silently remove accents.
A small project.
A rather big number.
Set in Prime is free to try. If it brings you a little joy,
you can help keep the proofs running.
